. . . In going out with all these men, Marianna often thought that she would get sick to her stomach if it were no for "one thing" (not to be confused with the "one thing" in City Slickers). And that "one thing" for Marianna was: Humor. Marianna was passionate about humor. And you don't date seventy-four men without gathering a virtual cornucopia of humorous anecdotes.
It has often been said that if Marianna was passionate about humor, she
was "rolling in the hay" passionate about telling a humorous story
on the phone, in her kitchen, or at the village market, bending the ear
of anyone who would listen. For if a flower loves the bright sunshine and
a gentle rain, Marianna loved an audience. Her two cats, Munchkin and Punam,
could attest to that. For many a lazy summer afternoon Marianna's furry
friends sat attentively in the backyard amid the diasies and the butterflies
as their Portuguese mistress told them of her adventures in the strange
and fantastic realm of personal ads. . . .
